Once known as Dominion, nowadays most of the stores had been rebranded as Metro, this chain of supermarkets goes back to 1919, when the first Dominion store opened in Ontario. Various acquisitions followed until finally Dominion was incorporated into Metro Inc. in 2008. Metro converted almost all Dominion stores to operate under the Metro name within 15 months.
Rebranded Dominion stores and Metro stores now operate across various communities in Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area, Eastern Ontario, Southern Ontario, and Northern Ontario, with the largest number of stores located in the Greater Toronto Area.
A grocery store that is “fresh obsessed,” Metro carries a good selection of fresh cuts of meats, fruits, vegetables, cheeses and dairies, and in addition, the supermarket carries its own line of private brands as well. Special prices for national brand products are included in the Dominon flyer weekly, but more price-competitive are the store’s Irresistibles and Selection products.
