How to shop on-a-budget for organic foods

Working your way around a $50 to $70 dollars weekly meal menu is hard enough without choosing organic, and it isn’t exactly the easiest thing to achieve either.
Learning how to shop efficiently takes a lot of practice and a lot of self-discipline, and when you grow an interest toward healthier food, it gets even harder to find prices to fit your budget.

Here’s a start to how you can eat healthier without causing that much damage to your wallet.

  • Choose to save more when shopping beauty and fashion

If you decide to buy a new dress or any other clothing item, think about whether it’s worth paying the higher price or not. For example, if it’s something you know you’re only going to wear once or twice, you could consider buying it cheap. Take the savings and put them into your groceries jar. This way, you can afford to buy more foods that are organic next time you shop.

Of course, you should purchase clothing that is more expensive if it’s something you’re going to wear a lot and it needs to provide that level of comfort, as well as quality. In this case, what you can do is wait for it to go on sale if it’s something you don’t need right away. It goes the same with beauty supplies: you can find many deals on perfumes, lipsticks, mascara, just about anything, and this is going to give you a chance to save more for your grocery list.

  • Know your supermarkets

While it’s true that organic food does cost more than conventional food and no matter how much savings you’ll make, eating healthier is still going to cost you more, there are stores that sell organic foods cheaper.

Many supermarkets also have bargains and deals for organic products, and it’s a growing competition among supermarkets to deliver best pricing as more and more people are interested in healthier options. Some supermarkets may stock a smaller organic selection, while others can have up to thousands of organic items on their shelves. This gives you plenty of choices to select between affordable and less affordable shops.

Also, warehouse clubs can help you downsize the amount you pay for organic items when you buy in bulk, for example. But you can even save at a farmers market if you learn when to shop and if you become a regular. Some farmers may throw in free items when you buy more.

  • Prioritize your organic options

When you buy organic, think about what product that you consume is more likely to contain hormones, pesticides, and chemicals, and choose to buy that organic over anything else. If you eat more fruits and vegetables than meat and dairy, you might consider checking the first off your list in terms of what to buy organic since this is what you usually consume.

Some fruits and vegetables are more likely to contain pesticide residue. Opt to buy these organic and skip to the usual when it comes to produce that is less susceptible to have chemicals. You should buy organic apples, strawberries, and peaches, for example, but you can skip buying organic in terms of mango, avocado or cabbage since these are less likely to have pesticides.
